Item description from the seller
The Limitations of Full-Cotton Long Ski Socks
Full-cotton long ski socks have some utility for light daily warmth, but they are not suitable for professional or extended skiing—their core limitation lies in the mismatch between cotton’s properties and the demands of skiing.
The contradictions between their characteristics and skiing scenarios are mainly reflected in 3 points:
1. Slow drying after absorbing moisture, prone to cold and frostbite: Cotton has strong moisture absorption but extremely slow moisture-wicking. When feet sweat during skiing, the socks remain damp for a long time, which easily leads to foot frostbite in low temperatures and significantly reduces comfort.
2. Diminished warmth when wet, lack of temperature stability: Dry cotton socks offer some warmth, but once they absorb sweat, their insulation drops sharply. Unlike wool socks (which trap air via hollow fibers), cotton cannot maintain a constant foot temperature and fails to cope with the low-temperature environment of skiing.
3. Poor elasticity and easy deformation, affecting fit: Cotton fibers have weak elasticity. After long-term wear or physical activity, the socks tend to loosen and deform, unable to fit the feet tightly. This may cause extra friction between the socks and ski boots, increasing the risk of blisters and impairing the flexibility of skiing movements.
